The Heritage Animal will be auctioned by 2023 Scholarship Recipient Anahi Lopez to fund MCFEC grounds improvements and local youth initiatives.

MONTEREY, CA. – June 15, 2023 – The Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation (MCFHF) is pleased to announce Anahi Lopez as this year’s MCFHF Animal Exhibitor and recipient of a $2,500 Scholarship. A recent graduate of Salinas High School, Anahi will pursue a degree in Agricultural Communications at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in the fall.

Anahi has been especially guided by her FFA advisors and hopes to spread “diversity in the agricultural industry” during and after college. She has served in a variety of leadership roles during her four years in FFA, including both Chapter and Sectional offices. One of her teachers described her as a “standout amongst her peers” and another describes her as “consistent in her demeanor and character.”

Anahi describes herself as a “high achiever” and is dedicated to serving her community as a volunteer whenever there’s a need. Her academics are outstanding as well and she is in the top 25% of her graduating class of almost 600 students. She is a member of prestigious academic clubs such as the California Scholarship Federation, National Honor Society, and National Society of High School Scholars.

Please join the MCFHF Board in congratulating Anahi Lopez on being selected as this year’s MCFHF Animal Exhibitor and Scholarship recipient. The animal she raises will be auctioned during the 2023 Monterey County Fair Jr. Livestock Auction on Saturday, August 26.

All proceeds from the sale of the animal will help benefit youth in the community by promoting scholarship opportunities, agricultural awareness, and will aid improvements to the barns, grounds, and event venues at the Monterey County Fair & Event Center.

“As someone who was involved in 4-H during my youth, I understand the importance of having the support of the community at the fair,” said Liz Silva, President of the Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation. “I joined the Heritage Board a dozen years ago because I believe together we can help make a difference in a young person’s life by raising funds to support their livestock projects and other endeavors.”
