Date

Join us this Saturday, Aug. 11th and Sunday, Aug. 12th  at 9 a.m. in the Wool Building at the Monterey County Fair & Event Center for Fleece Judging. Fleeces will be judged on a variety of factors in preparation for an auction of hand-spinning quality fleeces, set for 11:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3rd  in the Livestock Event Center as part of the 82nd  annual Monterey County Fair.

Judges will consider factors including fineness, evenness of quality or fineness among the various parts of the fleece, length and strength of staple, estimated clean weight, condition, and character, including crimp and color.

Handcrafted and handknit items will be judged at 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, in the Wool Building.

The 38th annual Wool Show competition is one of only two in the California county fair network, and in 2015 it received the Western Fair Association’s Blue Ribbon Award.

The show is organized by Anne’s Web, a group of about 60 spinners — people who turn wool into yarn — from Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.

The Wool Building will be open all five days of the Monterey County Fair, Aug. 30 through Sept. 3.
