Livestock Barns Will Be Buzzing With Activity at 2018 Monterey County Fair, Coming Aug. 30-Sept. 3, in Monterey

MONTEREY, CA. (August 1st, 2018) — County fairs aren’t only about cotton candy and corn dogs, music and carnival games and thrilling rides, they’re also about the original reason county fairs got started in the first place — the animals raised by youths in 4H, FFA and Grange.

And the 2018 Monterey County Fair, set for Aug. 30-Sept. 3, 2018, at the Monterey County Fair & Event Center, is no different. The Livestock Barns at the fair will be buzzing with activity as students show off their rabbits, pigs, goats, sheep, poultry, beef cattle and dairy cattle, and get them ready for competition.

Here are the dates, activity and times of the various activities, free with fair entry, at the Livestock Barns:

Saturday, August 25       Jr. Rabbit Show, 9 a.m.

Thursday, August 30       Swine Show, 9 a.m.

Thursday, August 30       Dairy Goat Show, 1 p.m.

Thursday, August 30       Market Goat Show, following completion of Swine Show

Friday, August 31             Beef Show, 9 a.m.

Friday, August 31             Dairy Cattle Show, following completion of Beef Show

Friday, August 31             Sheep Show, following completion of Dairy Cattle Show

Friday, August 31             Poultry Show, 3 p.m.

Saturday, September 1   Junior Livestock Auction, 10 a.m.

Sunday, September 2     Round Robin, 9 a.m.

Sunday, September 2     Pee Wee Showmanship, 6 p.m.

Sunday, September 2     Adult Showmanship, following completion of Pee Wee Showmanship

Admission to the fair is $10 for adults ages 13-61, $8 in advance, and $8 online, plus $1 fee; seniors 62 and older, $9, $8 advance, and $8 online, plus $1; children $6, $4 advance, $4 online, plus $1 fee; children 5 and under free.

Carnival wristbands are $35, $25 in advance, and $25 online, plus $1 fee. Wristbands are available every day this year and all military and law enforcement receive a $5 discount every day. This is a coupon that can be exchanged for a free popcorn, 2 for 1, free prize and a carnival wristband.

Fun Pack tickets will be sold at Sand City and Salinas Costco stores from July 25- August 29 and include two admission tickets, two carnival coupons, and multiple food coupons for $44.99.

Rodeo Admission is $5 per seat, per performance and on sale on the admit one ticket page. This price is a pre-sale price and good until August 29. After that, tickets are $10 each.

Sunday Rodeo Family Pack includes two adult fair admission, two children fair admission and four rodeo tickets. These packs are only good for one rodeo performance on Sunday. Presale: $35 Gate Pricing: $50

Thursday-Sunday: 12 to 11 p.m.
Monday: 12 to 10 p.m.
