PacRep will present one performance only of Saturday In The Park with Sondheim – A Tribute to the works of Stephen Sondheim on The Garden Stage (aka The Jack Payton Stage) at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. PacRep performers Niki Moon, JT Holmstrom, Velvet Piini, Jeff Hinderscheid and Lara Devin will perform over 30 Sondheim classics, drawn from his celebrated Broadway musicals.

One of the most important figures in twentieth-century musical theater, Sondheim was credited for having reinvented the American musical with shows that tackled unexpected themes that range far beyond the genre’s traditional subjects with music and lyrics of unprecedented complexity and sophistication. His shows addressed darker, more harrowing elements of the human experience, with songs often tinged with ambivalence about various aspects of life. Sondheim died on November 26, 2021, at the age of 91. On December 8, 2021, Broadway theaters dimmed their marquee lights for one minute as a tribute.
