The Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation is pleased to announce this year’s Scholarship recipient of $2,500 and exhibitor of the 2018 Heritage Hog, Alexandria Burgess from the Hilltown 4H Club. Alex was born and raised in the Salinas Valley and will be a senior this coming school year at Salinas High. She has also been an active member of her FFA Chapter since entering high school in 2015.

From a very early age, Alex knew she wanted to raise livestock for the fair, after seeing some of her cousins participate locally. Through many of her 4H and FFA experiences, she has participated and placed in numerous projects, has held leadership roles, attended various leadership conferences, and has raised 26 animals, including the Heritage Hog for the recent 2018 Salinas Valley Fair. Alex is also a member of the MCF Junior Fair Board.

In her free time, Alex enjoys playing tennis, writing short stories, participating in Public Speaking and Agri-Science teams, assisting with the Pre-K students as a Sunday School Assistant and works during her summer breaks. She believes that “4H and FFA are complimentary not competing entities”.

After high school, Alex plans to pursue a higher education focused on Agri-Business, hoping to help develop and work on innovative sustainable agricultural practices or to become a high school ag teacher one day.

Please join our Board in Congratulating Alex on being selected for this year’s MCFHF Scholarship. All proceeds from the sale of the Heritage hog will benefit youth in the community by promoting scholarship opportunities, agricultural awareness, and help improve the barns, grounds, and event center venues at the Monterey County Fair.
