Monterey, CA — September 2, 2025 — The Monterey County Fair concluded its five-day run on Labor Day, welcoming thousands of guests while highlighting both the challenges and successes of this year’s event.

Attendance across the Fair reflected mixed results. Opening Day on Thursday saw a 21% increase compared to 2024, with strong momentum carried into Friday, which rose 3% year-over-year. Monday’s closing day delivered another significant boost with a 14% attendance increase. Saturday and Sunday, however, saw lower turnout due to the Fair’s early closure on Saturday evening and a cap of 12,000 patrons on Sunday for health and safety reasons. Overall attendance closed 3% lower than in 2024.

Financial performance reflected a similar split. Carnival revenue finished 12% below last year, but vendor concessions rose 4%, underscoring consistent demand for food and merchandise even with slightly reduced overall attendance.

The 2025 Junior Livestock Auction was another bright spot, raising a total gross of $544,679 to benefit local 4-H and FFA youth, not including after-auction add-ons that are still being finalized. A centerpiece of the auction, the 2025 Heritage Animal raised by Hollister High School graduate Callie Marci, sold for $310 per pound at 75 pounds to Chris and Sabu Shake, amounting to $23,250. Proceeds from the Heritage Animal sale go to the Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation, which directs the funds toward fairground improvements and scholarships.

“The Fair continues to be an economic driver for our region, supporting local youth, small businesses, and the fairgrounds itself,” said Kelly Violini-Rodoni, CEO of the Monterey County Fair. “While we faced unique challenges this year, the overall enthusiasm and support from the community reinforce the value of this tradition.”

The Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation is pleased to announce this year’s Heritage Animal Exhibitor and recipient of a $2,500 scholarship: Callie Marci. She recently graduated from Hollister High School and plans to attend Oregon State University in the fall to study Psychology and Criminal
Justice.

Callie finds fulfillment in helping others through volunteering in her community. She has participated in 4-H since she was a “Clover Bud” at age 6, has held several offices in her local club, and ultimately achieved the rank of 4-H County All Star. During her four years at Hollister High School, she was an active member of her FFA chapter and is currently in the process of earning her “American Degree.”

In addition to her academic excellence—described by one educator as a “consistent pursuit of excellence in every subject”—Callie is a standout athlete in both field hockey and basketball. In a graduating class of over 800 students, she ranked in the top 20% and remains dedicated to serving her community whenever there’s a need. She also serves as a San Benito County Fair Youth Ambassador.

Last year, the Heritage Hog, shown by Aleena Chavez, raised $19,800 for the Heritage Foundation — funds that directly support capital and community improvements at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. This year, Callie Marci will carry on the tradition, with proceeds from her Heritage Animal benefiting future projects and opportunities for local youth.

Please join our Board of Directors in congratulating Callie Marci on being selected as this year’s Heritage Animal Exhibitor and scholarship recipient. The animal she raises will be auctioned during the 2025 Monterey County Fair Jr. Livestock Auction on Saturday, August 30. All proceeds from the sale of this animal will benefit youth in our community by promoting scholarship opportunities, agricultural awareness, and supporting improvements to the barns, grounds, and event center venues at the Monterey County Fairgrounds.

We hope to see you at the 2025 Monterey County Fair Junior Livestock Auction. To donate to the Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation, please utilize the form on their website. For auction media credentials or press inquiries, please contact Tayler Baldwin at media@montereycountyfair.com

About the Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation
In 1935 the first Fair was held at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. Since then, not only has the Fair continued annually, but the Monterey County
Fair & Event Center has become the site for an eclectic mix of public and private events including music festivals, community dinners, trade
shows, and weddings. When the State of California eliminated funding for its fairgrounds in 2011, the Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation
was created to assist in supporting the Fair & Event Center. The vision of the Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation is to ensure the future of
the Monterey County Fair & Event Center as a vibrant and diverse community venue.

MONTEREY, CA – September 10, 2024 – The Monterey County Fair (MCF) concluded its highly successful run from August 29 to September 2, celebrating a remarkable year of growth and community engagement. This year’s fair saw a significant increase in attendance, with a total of 84,240 people enjoying the festivities, marking a 14.5% rise in admissions compared to 2023. Pre-sale tickets soared by 26%, reflecting the heightened excitement surrounding the event, and MCF’s $5 ‘Flash Sale’ initiatives over the course of the summer.

Concessions sales experienced a 12% increase, and the Helm & Sons carnival enjoyed a 9% boost in sales, all contributing to a vibrant and bustling atmosphere. The fair showcased an impressive array of entries, with 1,491 total submissions from 319 exhibitors across various categories. The Livestock Show highlighted the talents and dedication of 407 exhibitors, including local 4-H and FFA members, as well as independent
exhibitors. The total gross from the livestock auction reached an impressive $695,733, underscoring the community’s strong support for agricultural education and youth programs.

A standout moment of the auction was the sale of the 2024 Heritage Hog, a 220-pound entry shown by Aleena Chavez, which fetched $90 per pound. This sale alone raised approximately $19,800 for the Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation, showcasing the generosity and enthusiasm of auction supporters. Overall, the Monterey County Fair 2024 proved to be a resounding success, with increased engagement and substantial contributions supporting local youth and agricultural initiatives.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with how this year’s concluded. It’s heartwarming to see such a strong turnout and to know that our community’s excitement for the fair is as vibrant as ever,” said Kelly Violini-Rodoni, CEO of the Monterey County Fair & Event Center. “We’re grateful for the enthusiasm everyone brought to the fair, and we’re already looking forward to what we can achieve together next year.”
