We Need Your Help

Dear Community Partner:

We hope that this email finds you well and that you are staying safe during this COVID-19 pandemic.

The Monterey County Fair & Event Center is home to world famous music festivals, iconic entertainment, community holiday dinners and of course the annual Monterey County Fair. Our 22 acres have been in operation since 1936 where generations of families have enjoyed many events at this location.

We are seeing the impact of COVID-19 across the board in the Fair Industry.  To date, more than 35 Fairs of 78 in California have canceled, postponed or drastically altered their main annual event, and more are expected to make that decision in the coming weeks.  Educational, entertainment and family events that are important to the communities we serve, like seasonal trade shows, weddings, family reunions, equestrian events and dog shows, quinceaneras, stand down events for veterans, non-profit organizations fundraisers, learning center activities, and other community events have also been cancelled, postponed or closed.

Fairgrounds are funded solely by the revenue that we generate from mass gatherings, which are now prohibited due to COVID-19.  The financial hardship is extreme and felt by our fairs, the employees and also vendors, concessionaires, entertainers, local businesses, exhibitors, youth engaged in junior livestock programs, carnivals, service providers, hotels and nonprofits who rely on our fairgrounds and the Network of California Fairs to survive.  Fairgrounds preserve 30,000 jobs annually, and we provide opportunities for hundreds of small business men and women to operate their businesses at the Fair and our numerous consumer shows.

Fairgrounds are often the heartbeat of their community generating over $35 million in non-profit and community benefits, and promoting a quality of life serving as gathering spots, recreation facilities and learning centers.  Fairgrounds generate more than $3.5 billion in annual economic impact while contributing over $200 million in tax revenue to local and State governments.

We need Emergency Funding in the new package of Federal economic relief.  Without support, many Fairs will close and their communities they serve will suffer.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!  The Fair and the Fairgrounds mean so much to us and our community, and we hope that we can count on you to help us tell our story and get our message to Congress.
