ARIES & FRIENDS AT THE FAIR DANCE PARTY” WITH MIKE BECK & THE BOHEMIAN SAINTS” AT THE TURF CLUB AT THE MONTEREY COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS ON FRIDAY, APRIL 2, 2010

March 6, 2010, A special “Aries & Friends at the Fair Dance Party with Mike Beck & The Bohemian Saints” will be held on Friday, April 2nd at 8:00 PM at the beautiful Turf Club at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, 2004 Fairgrounds Road, in Monterey. The event will feature a no-host bar and appetizers. The cost is $8 per person in advance and $10 per person at the door, $5 with military ID. Open to age 21+. Advance tickets can be purchased online at montereycountyfair.com or at the Fair office at the corner of Garden Road and Fairground Road. Mike Beck and The Bohemian Saints (mikebeck.com) is an irresistible old fashioned guitar band, comprised of respected guitarist and songwriter, Mike Beck, and San Francisco Bay Area guitarist, Tom Ayres, backed up on bass by Marty Lydon, and on drums by Paul Montgomery. The band has played together since 2002, and no matter where the band performs, their large devoted fan base follows.

Mike Beck is a popular solo acoustic singer songwriter who lives in Montana and California. He has performed in over six countries, and throughout the United States, and just returned some shows in from Norway and Sweden. Mike is known for his memorable ballads that capture old California, our world today, and the cowboy way of life. Two of Mike Beck’s songs were listed in the “13 Best Cowboy Songs of All Time” in the April 2009 issue of Western Horseman Magazine (“In Old California” – a song about Jo Mora - and “Don’t Tell Me.”) His song, “Patrick” was listed as one of “The Top 15 Roadworthy Cowboy Songs” in the July 2008 issue of Cowboys & Indians Magazine. His song, “Amanda Come Home” was featured on NPR’s Weekend Edition, and is dedicated to all of the women who served in Iraq.

The band was recently featured at the 2009 Monterey County Fair. Their music is frequently aired on all five of the popular California KPIG Radio stations (www.kpig.com) throughout California (including Monterey/Santa Cruz, San Luis Obispo, Chico and the San Francisco Bay Area) and via the station's popular Internet site. The music of Mike Beck and The Bohemian Saints has also been heard throughout the United States and internationally, including NPR Radio, CBC, Sirius and the BBC, among others. Their enjoyable original material, primarily composed by Mike Beck, reflects the band's love of the Byrds, Burrito Brothers and the Rolling Stones. Their popular onstage live shows reflect the energy of the Grateful Dead. The band's top professional musicians provide outstanding shows in bars, coffeehouses, folk clubs, schools, festivals, and at corporate events.

FRIENDS OF MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR TO PRESENT” A NIGHT IN ITALY”

February, 2010. Monterey, CA. The Friends of Monterey County Fair will hold a very special fund-raising event, “A Night in Italy” featuring a Bocci Tournament, Dessert Auction, Live Auction, and Italian Style Dinner. The fundraising event, which will benefit Fairgrounds improvement, will be held on Friday, March 12th starting at 5:30 PM at the Monterey Room at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, 2004 Fairground Road in Monterey (831) 372-5863. The cost is $35 per person, $60 per couple, $20 per child (10 years and younger), and $25 per team for the Bocci Tournament Entry.

The fun evening begins with no-host cocktails from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. >From 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, there will be the Bocci Tournament, Dessert Auction.

Dinner will begin at 7:00 PM and the announcement of the Bocci Tournament Winners and Live Auction will begin at 8:30 PM. The Friends of Monterey County Fair is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The Monterey County Fairgrounds is a premiere event center set on 22 oak-studded acres with ample parking. It is home of the annual award-winning Monterey County Fair, host to many major and private events on the Central Coast, and the site of the Monterey Bay Race Place, a Satellite Wagering Facility.

February 8, 2010, A special “March Hare at the Fair Dance Party with Mike Beck & The Bohemian Saints” will be held on Friday, March 5th at 8:00 PM at the beautiful Turf Club at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, 2004 Fairgrounds Road, in Monterey. To the surprise of the event organizers who planned the March Hare theme months ago since the party is in the month of March, the new Disney “Alice in Wonderland” film with actor Johnny Depp will be released March 5th, the same day as the event at the Turf Club. The characters and images of the beloved Alice in Wonderland story will be celebrated at the upcoming “March Hare at the Fair Dance Party”.

ARTWORK FROM CELEBRATED LOCAL ARTIST, JO MORA, CHOSEN FOR 2010 MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR POSTER

February 2010. Monterey, CA. An adorable colorful illustration from the charming children’s book, Chippie de Munk: The Great Inventor, written by internationally respected and beloved local artist, Jo Mora, has been selected to compliment "The Fair is in the Air!” theme of the 2010 Monterey County Fair. The image depicts a crowd of animals cheering Chippie de Munk’s ingenious way of conquering flight. The Monterey County Fair will celebrate the American spirit of creativity and innovation, as well as the importance of reading and literacy, during its 6-day run from September 1-6, 2010.

Joseph Jacinto (“Jo”) Mora (1876-1947) was a versatile man who also enjoyed an adventurous life. He was a sculptor, painter, author, illustrator, cartoonist, muralist and diorama-maker, as well as an artillery major and Indian language interpreter for the U.S. Army, honorary member of the Hopi and Navajo tribes, cowhand, and photographer. He began his professional career as an illustrator for The Boston Traveler and The Boston Herald. He also drew and wrote a feature Sunday cartoon page called Animaldom. He moved to Carmel in 1920, and established a studio at the Carmel Mission. There, he began one of his most handsome pieces, the monumental cenotaph of bronze and travertine representing Father Junipero Serra and his assistants. After completing this work, the Mora’s acquired a new home in Pebble Beach through his close relationship with Samuel F. B. Morse. Jo Mora also carved the wooden oak Serra Shrine located at Camino Del Monte and Alta in Carmel, as a commission for Morse. Jo Mora well-known for the series of detailed and humorous maps (cartes) that he created. In addition, Jo created beautiful decorative elements for many buildings, including the Monterey County Courthouse.

SPECIAL FREE SUPER BOWL PARTY TO BE HELD AT THE MONTEREY BAY RACE PLACE

February, 2010. Monterey, CA. A special free Super Bowl Party will be held on Sunday, February 7th at the Monterey Bay Race Place located at the Monterey County Fairgrounds (enter through Gate 5 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, 2004 Fairground Road, Monterey, (831) 372-0315).

This fun event starts at 10:00 AM with free admission and goes through the conclusion of the post-game shows. There will be complimentary snacks and ½ price off all beer. There will also be a free football pool with special prices and other racing giveaways.

The spacious 7000 square-foot Monterey Bay Race Place features 150 big screen TV’s, comfortable seating, and an outdoor patio, with a great sports bar atmosphere. The Monterey Race Place is located at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. The Fairgrounds are nestled on 22 oak-studded acres located in the city and county of Monterey. The Satellite Horse Racing Facility is active year-round. It offers races (depending on the season) from Golden Gates Fields, Santa Anita, Bay Meadows, Del Mar, Hollywood Park, Cal Expo and other major tracks across the country.
